Dowsing rods, ancient tools for finding water sources, are presently used by paranormal investigators to locate paranormal activity.

Dowsing rods, also called divining rods, have increasingly been used by paranormal investigators in recent years to detect the location of spirits. Thepractice of seeking out ghosts with dowsing rods, which is relatively new, derives from a much older practice that has gone on for thousands of years.

What is a Dowsing Rod?

Dowsing, or divining, began as a way to find underground water and has been used to find water up until the present day. Over the past several centuries, dowsing rods have been used for various reasons that include determining the sex of unborn children, locating minerals, buried treasure and foretelling the future.

Paranormal investigators employ the use of two L-shaped metal rods to locate energy sources and paranormal activity. Although there is no standard material, it is recommended that dowsing rods be made of brass or another lightweight metal. Dowsing rods can even be made using metal coat hangers. Purchasing a nice set of dowsing rods is relatively inexpensive.

No one knows for certain whether or not dowsing is an effective means of locating paranormal energy. While there are many skeptics, some of which are also paranormal investgiators, there are plenty of supporters of dowsing for ghosts.

How to Use Dowsing Rods

The longer ends of the L-shaped rods should point away from the body while the two shorter ends are held in the hands. The rods must be held loosely to ensure that they will move back and forth with ease.

The paranormal investigator must walk in the direction that the rods are pointing. They supposedly point in the direction of the energy source and therefore, the rods must be followed. When the rods cross, the source has been found. If the rods remain crossed while the possessor of the rods is in motion, investigators believe this is evidence of paranormal energy in motion. In other words, the investigator can track the movement of the ghost or paranormal energy.

Many investigators suggest using an EMF detector in conjunction with dowsing rods. If an energy source has been located with dowsing rods, paranormal investigators like to confirm these findings with other tools.

Concerning dowsing, Albert Einstein said, “I know very well that many scientists consider dowsing as they do astrology, as a type of ancient superstition. According to my conviction this is, however, unjustified. The dowsing rod is a simple instrument which shows the reaction of the human nervous system to certain factors which are unknown to us at this time”.
