Sergey Poberezhny serves as Tech Manager for the Paranormal Research Society. Sergey and other members of PRS are featured on A&E Television Network's Paranormal State.

Sergey Poberezhny first became acquainted with the Paranormal Research Society upon transferring to Penn State's University Park campus. As a new student, he felt compelled to join campus clubs to help orient himself and make new friends. While scanning the list of student clubs, Poberezhny came across the Paranormal Reseearch Society. Made curious by his interest in late night paranormal television shows, Poberezhny decided to join.

Did you ever imagine the Paranormal Research Society could go from a student club to a very influential organization in the paranormal field?

Poberezhny: Yes and no. I guess I never imagined it becoming so influential because the thought of PRS growing never crossed my mind in the beginning. I really had one idea in mind and it was to help the clients and my fellow PRS-ers. Now I am at the point where I can see a huge potential for PRS. I am really excited to see what we can achieve.

Some people question the young age of many of the members of the Paranormal Research Society. What do you think?

Poberezhny: It’s understandable. I heard that kind of talk as I was growing up. I think it’s initially thought this way because people don't know exactly what we do and how PRS works. Once they meet us and see that we are hard working and dedicated to this field then we will slowly earn their respect. If anything, I try to not let those kind of things get to my head. We all have to start somewhere. Is a 22-year-old with four years in the paranormal that much worse than a 34-year-old with one year? What matters to me is how much work I put in, not my age.

What's involved when it comes to serving as Tech Manager for PRS?

Poberezhny: Maintaining that all wires are properly rolled up and all batteries are fully charged. Well, there is a bit more more involved than that. When you go out and investigate in a house and you stay there for several days, it is very easy to lose track of where you left a recorder after an interview or where you put your flashlight after investigating the attic... my job is to make sure everything that we bring comes back with us... all our data is properly labeled and we can easily review anything that we missed when we get back the next day, or when we want to review it one year from that moment.

How do you handle both school and investigating the paranormal with PRS?

Poberezhny: Very poorly. It is definitely tough to juggle the two. But my life is not as simple as juggling school and PRS. If it were just those two things, then it would be fairly easy. As a college student, I want to experience college activities and that means going out and socializing; so at times, going to the movies with friends means I am sacrificing something else. Then I have my passion for photography to attend to, my college bills to worry about, and trying to devote time to friends and family back at home.
