Throughout history, many people have witnessed rainfalls of animals and other odd things falling from the sky. Scientists still have no answers.

People have reported seeing living and inorganic things fall from the sky. These include fish, grain, coins, slime and many other items. Usually strange rains occur when there are heavy winds or bad storms. Occasionally, strange rain falls from the sky on bright and sunny days.

Selected Documented Strange Rains

Strange Rains of Purple Blobs or Star Jelly

These are often attributed to meteors, because they're commonly found after strange lights are seen in the sky. Modern scientists are baffled because they believe that these blobs couldn’t survive the fiery trip of entering earth's atmosphere.

  • 1979: Frisco, Texas. On August 10th, Mrs. Christian and others saw a bright light in the sky. The next morning, she found three purple blobs in her yard. One dissolved. The others were analyzed. Chemical reports could not clearly determine the origin of the blobs.
  • 1996: A town in southern Tasmania. Several residents woke up after a night of violent thunderstorms to find a strange, white-clear jelly-like substance on their property.
  • 2001: Kerala, India. Strange colored jelly filled with fungus spores fell.

Theories About Strange Rains

What accounts for these strange rains? There are theories.

Funnels, tornados, hurricanes, whirlwinds or waterspouts are one theory. Objects can be picked up and carried by them. How could they pick up only one type of animal or object and carry it somewhere? They are known to drop everything they pick up.

UFOs and aliens are another theory for the cause of strange rains. Morris K. Jessup, UFO enthusiast, believes that strange rains are alien waste. He claims aliens collect and raise earthly creatures in tanks and occasionally empty the tanks for cleaning or other purposes.

Writer John Philip Bessor believes that UFO's are meat-eating animals who live in the atmosphere. They hunt the earth for food, including humans, which accounts for their mysterious disappearances .

Other hypotheses include teleportation and electromagnetic fields. Like the others, none have been tested. Scientists remain perplexed.
