In response to Sightings posted by spiritalk:Although some religious faiths don't believe that animals have souls, I disagree. They could teach all of us some good lessons about love and loyalty and it's comforting that some of them are able to continue to offer us their love and protection after they have passed.

In response to Sightings posted by jcredmond:At the risk of sounding cynical, some animals seem much more loving than others. Mammals are clearly more loving toward owners than any other pets. But beyond that, dogs seem to exhibit a sort of unconditional love, probably because of their pack instincts. Cats, OTOH, are much more aloof. They can still show signs of love, but they don't always do so and there is a noticeable difference in the type of love they show.

In response to Sightings posted by RLSharp:You're absolutely right, Robert, about mammals being more loving. When I think about animals in heaven, the image of the cuddly crocodile doesn't really come to mind.
Cats are definitely more aloof, but I think they show love in their own way.

In response to Sightings posted by jcredmond:Love and protection is not the same as having a soul. The soul is a progressive, spiritual aspect. Animals lack this ability. But they do not lack the ability to love (even wild animals love their family and are very protective as they run in packs)
